PERTH, Feb 23 AAP - Labor Party national president Carmen Lawrence today said outgoing
Tasmanian Premier Jim Bacon would be sorely missed.

Mr Bacon announced today he would quit politics after being told by doctors Friday
February 13 he had inoperable lung cancer.

The 53-year-old will stand down immediately as premier and quit politics completely
in about a month. Deputy Premier and Treasurer Paul Lennon will take over as acting premier
until the party room formally chooses a replacement.
