Vic: Stolen Tucker painting found 13 years on
MELBOURNE, Feb 17 AAP - A stolen painting by Australian artist Albert Tucker has been
found on the back seat of a car - some 13 years after it went missing from a Sydney gallery.
Police discovered the painting, titled Ibis, on Monday after intercepting a vehicle
travelling along the Goulburn Valley Highway at Numurkah in northern Victoria, police
spokesman Kevin Loomes said.
Two men had been interviewed and would face charges, Mr Loomes said.
The framed oil painting, worth between $100,000 and $200,000, was in very good condition,
given the length of time it had been missing, he said.
It was stolen from a gallery at Paddington in eastern Sydney in April 1987.
Mr Tucker died last October at the age of 84.
