FED: Howard gives nod to preamble vote at republic poll

CANBERRA, Feb 8 AAP - Prime Minister John Howard today indicated support for a second
question at this year's republic referendum to acknowledge indigenous occupation of Australia
in the preamble to the Constitution.

But the Prime Minister said there were significant difficulties with the proposal because
the existing preamble was an act of the British Parliament rather than a clause in the
Australian constitution.
